Welcome to the official home of Asociacion Azteca de Lucha Libre. -May 1st 2009 ![]() The Asociacion Azteca de Lucha Libre (AALL) was a wrestling promotion that was based out of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico and El Paso, Texas. It staged the majority of their shows either from shopping malls, night clubs or gyms in Mexico and Texas. While these were not televised live, every few months the promotion found a bigger venue for a big show to be broadcast on pay per view. Despite this lack of exposure, the fans had followed the promotion with a cult-like following. The promotions staff booked venues for performance and sold tickets once a show was set up. Everyone involved in the promotion believed the company had a bright future and just needed its break. Wrestlers actually lost money for each show paying their dues to get the promotion more exposure. Every show got them in front of an audience; every good performance created word of mouth and that word of mouth had got out. Mainstream wrestling magazines started to send journalists to follow the promotion which brought it to the attention of other promotions. Its unique characters and performers wanted to make AALL big and now was their time. The company at the time was owned by Mariana Medina, a woman that wanted more for her company so she made the deal to take her company to the next level. She decided she wanted to make a television program which would feature characters portrayed by wrestlers from the Mexican and American Independent circuits. She moved it to its permanent location where it was filmed more like an episodic show instead of the more traditional wrestling show. It picked up a bit of a reputation and has now been noticed by the Networks who are vying to give it a worldwide audience. As with a lot of Mexican wrestling promotions it had a basis around Aztec history with masked luchadors being a huge part of the shows which gave it a mysterious and sometimes supernatural feel to it. A lot of the characters are connected to the Mexican folklore deity, Santa Muerte, the caretaker of the dead and guide to the great beyond. We will see how this style works for a worldwide audience.
